Interiorization and Intimacy

Starting from a very formal conception of architecture, there is a historical progression of the continual interiorization that is both architectural and social. The turn inwards in search of origins and principles begins with the study of anatomy; a shift in focus from exterior form to the functioning of the interior takes place in studying first the interior of the body and then of the building. The interior becomes a concern of the architects practice to create spaces according to the use, program and practical function, hence elevating the importance of the plan. As a result of simultaneous architectural change and social evolution, the interior gradually becomes an intimate space.
